Meda Watte Region

Meda Watte tea is grown in the Dumbara valley, located in the Kandy region of Sri Lanka. The tea plants thrive at an altitude of 610-925 metres above sea level, resulting in a mid grown tea with a strong, pungent and full-bodied flavour, reminiscent of the bold style of Shiraz. Kandy is a beautiful town and the hill capital of Sri Lanka, known for its grandeur and historical significance as the stronghold of Sinhala Kings. The town’s focal point is the Dalada Maligawa, a golden-roofed temple that enshrines the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha. Visitors can also enjoy the Peradeniya Gardens, a variety of shrines and temples, and shop for rare items made of wood, metal, and other materials.

Best Meda Watte tasting

Meda Watte tea is best savoured with its strong and robust flavour left untouched, however, for those looking to add a twist to their cup, a few fresh mint leaves, a sliver of fresh ginger, a twist of lemon, or a touch of honey can enhance the tea’s natural flavours. Meda Watte pairs exceptionally well with bold and rich foods such as red meats, Mexican dishes, spicy foods, and hamburgers. If you love cheese, try this tea with a slice of blue Stilton, Roquefort or Valdeon cheese. For a truly decadent experience, pair the tea with Lindt 78% Cocoa Smooth Dark chocolate: a perfect balance of bold and rich flavours.

Storage advice

Store the tea in its steel box, and keep in a cool, dark place. It is important, when storing, to keep it away from sources of heat.
If storing in the refrigerator or freezer, pack in small, completely airtight packets or jars. Before use, wait for it to reach room temperature, in order to prevent any condensation. Each packet should be used within a week after opening.
